Curiosity & Creativity: Everything You Need to Know

We know that choosing a summer camp is a big decision for your family. Whether you’re curious about our daily STEAM challenges, our painting sessions, or the “boring but important” logistics like pick-up and payments, we’ve got you covered. Dive in below to find answers to our most common questions.

Who should I address my e-transfer or payment to?

Please send all e-transfers to nicole@nicolemorrisondesign.com. You may see the recipient name appear as Nicole Morrison Design. This is our current registered business entity in Ontario while we complete our transition to The Art Room later this year.

How do I secure a spot for my child?

Registration is completed online through our booking portal. Due to our camper-to-staff ratios, spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Your child’s spot is only officially reserved once the full payment is received.

When is my child's spot officially confirmed?

To keep our classes small and focused, your spot is only confirmed once payment is received. We accept PayPal or e-transfer. If you choose e-transfer, please send it to info@theartroom.co within 24 hours of your online registration to ensure the spot isn’t released to the next family on the waitlist.

What is "Early Bird" registration and is it worth it?

Absolutely! Families who register before July receive a discount code. Not only does this save you money, but it also guarantees your first choice of STEAM modules.

How do you manage food allergies and medical needs?

We are a “nut-aware” facility and encourage parents to pack nut-free lunches and snacks. If your child requires medication, please provide it in the original packaging with clear instructions; our trained leads can assist with EpiPens or emergency meds as outlined in your registration form.

What should my child pack every day?

Campers should bring a reusable water bottle, a nut-free lunch with two snacks, sunscreen, a hat, and closed-toe shoes for safety.
Please send them in “art-approved” clothing or bring an art apron/large t-shirt! We use professional-grade supplies that are designed to last, which means they can sometimes stain. The Art Room is not responsible for damaged or stained clothing, so the messier the outfit, the better!

Who will be leading the camp and what are their qualifications?

Our camp is led by a dedicated instructor with decades of experience in professional design, illustration, and community art programs. I am joined by my mom and a few helpful student mentors (ages 12–14) who act as a “second pair of eyes” through our Team Color System.
We focus on more than just projects; we are mindful of nervous system regulation and aim to create a space where every child feels calm, supported, and ready to create. For your peace of mind, all adult leads have up-to-date CPR certifications and police background checks.

What does a typical day look like at Art & STEAM camp?

We balance STEAM challenges with focused Art sessions. A typical day includes  morning Process Art, one core project block (e.g., mark making, flow art painting), many bathroom, water, snack breaks then lunch and an afternoon of KIDS Art Club.

Do you offer extended care for working parents?

Standard camp hours are Process Art Class 9:00 am – 12, lunch hour and Kids Club 1– 4:00 pm. We do not offer before or after care.

What is your policy on bullying or behavioral issues?

We foster a culture of “kindness and curiosity.” Our staff is trained in positive reinforcement and conflict resolution. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying; if a behavioral issue arises, we communicate immediately with parents to find a supportive solution.

Does my child need prior experience in art or technology?

Not at all! Our curriculum is designed to be beginner-friendly while offering “extension” challenges for more advanced campers. We focus on the creative process rather than just the final product.

Will the kids be indoors all day?

No. We believe the best inspiration comes from nature. We schedule supervised outdoor breaks, lunch in the park (weather permitting), and occasionally take our Art projects outside for “en plein air” sessions.

What is your refund and cancellation policy?

We understand plans change. Full refunds (minus a small admin fee) are typically available if requested [30 days] prior to the start date. Within 7–14 days, we may offer account credit or a partial refund; please see our full Cancellation Policy for details.

Can I change my child’s week or class after booking?

We allow one session or class change per camper at no extra cost, provided there is space available and the request is made at least 14 days before the start date. Subsequent changes may incur a $15 administrative fee.

Are the activities safe for my child?

Safety is our top priority, but part of the fun in a STEAM camp involves hands-on learning! By registering, parents acknowledge that our art and STEAM activities involve the use of tools (such as scissors, hot glue guns, and small mechanical parts) as well as active physical play. While we provide constant supervision and safety training, participation includes an agreement to waive the art room and STEAM Lab of liability for minor injuries typical of creative and active play.

What are your safety and supervision protocols during the day?

Safety and teamwork are built into our daily routine. Our studio door remains locked during class hours to ensure a secure environment, and no child is permitted to leave the “Art Zone” without a teacher’s supervision.
To add an extra layer of care, we use a Team Color System. Campers are grouped into teams where our older campers (Ages 12+) act as a “second pair of eyes” and mentors for the younger ones. Every camper has a specific duty to help their team, fostering a responsible, close-knit community where everyone looks out for one another.

Can my child walk or bike home alone?

We only permit independent departure for campers Ages 12+. During registration, you must explicitly check the “Independent Departure” box to grant this permission; otherwise, a designated adult must sign them out.

What are the exact pick-up times?

Prompt pick-up is required at 11:45 am (for morning sessions) or 3:45 pm (for full-day/afternoon sessions). Our teachers use the time between sessions to reset the “Art Zone” for the next group, so we appreciate your punctuality!

Will you be taking photos of the kids?

We love documenting the creative process! During registration, you can choose between two options:
  • Yes: You give us permission to photograph your child’s artwork or your child (we focus on “action shots” and do not show faces) for our social media and newsletter.
  • No: No photos will be taken of your child or their work.
